Reality check,: Great light usually doesn’t just happen. Most of the time we have to enhance or create great lighting. Think of it this way, when you watch a movie the lighting is totally controlled to create atmosphere and drama. We don’t just snap away hoping something looks good enough that you will like it!
Lighting creates the mood for an image, lighting reveals the depth in the scene, lighting directs the viewers eye to what the artist wants to call attention to and away from what needs to be diminished, lighting separates the average photographer from the true master of the art of photography.
Great lighting draws a viewer into the scene by creating dimension, it doesn’t matter if it is all natural or totally artificial as long as it connects the viewer to the subject. Anyone can get lucky and happen on a wonderfully lit scene but only a master knows how to create it from scratch or enhance the existing natural light.
